Wizard of the Crow: a novel

In exile for more than twenty years, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s Wizard of the Crow (translated from Kikuyu) is a sweeping, satirical novel set in the fictional Free Republic of Aburiria. It dramatizes the battle for the souls of its people between a megalomaniac ruler and an unemployed young man who becomes a magician, weaving traditional African storytelling into a sprawling mosaic that critiques corruption, power, and global forces shaping postcolonial Africa.
