Thomas Jefferson and the Foundations of Freedom

The late President John F. Kennedy addresses a large group of distinguished American scholars, artists and scientists in the White House, remarking that there was the greatest collection of talent under the White House roof since Jefferson dined alone. President Kennedy did not exaggerate. It would be hard to exaggerate about Thomas Jefferson's talents. He was a scientist, scholar, jurist, philosopher, inventor, architect and a superb political leader. He was one of the founders of the American Republic, molded the Declaration of Independence, conceived of the Louisiana Purchase, established the Democratic Party and promoted the idea of public education.
