About the Author

 

Peter Mansfield (1928–1996) was a British political journalist and historian. He was a leading expert on the Middle East and wrote and broadcasted extensively on the region for over forty years. After resigning from the British Foreign Service in 1956 over the Suez Crisis, he worked as a correspondent for prestigious publications like the Financial Times and The Sunday Times. His other notable books include The Arabs and A History of the Middle East.
