This course assumes that students have been studying English for about two years and aims to give them a systematic basic knowledge of the main structures, structural words, and vocabulary common to all branches of science. The approach is essentially oral. The course consists of twelve Units, each containing a reading passage that introduces the words and structures to be studied in that Unit. The material is graded by passage length and the increasing complexity of the structures as students work through the book. The students' book also contains a supplement of extracts from current scientific literature, appendices, and a dictionary of Basic Scientific English, with non-structural items explained and illustrated for use. Teacher's Notes to accompany the course are published separately.
