The Government Inspector is a satire by the Russian writer Nikolai Gogol. The corrupt officials of a small Russian town receive a letter informing them that a government inspector will soon be arriving in their town to investigate them. The town officials desperately try to cover up all their wrongdoings before the inspector arrives. They are thrown into a panic when they learn that a mysterious stranger is staying at the local inn. Even worse – he has been there for two weeks already. They decide this stranger must surely be the inspector! What has he seen during the past two weeks? What has he already learned about the town and its officials? Will the corrupt officials find themselves in trouble? The Government Inspector is an amusing comedy of errors that criticizes human greed, stupidity, and behavior of corrupt politicians.
