Contes d'enfer

In these three tales, Marcel Jouhandeau calls the 'd’Enfer' the evil that is not always unmistakable; it takes singularly trompeuses and seductive shapes. Ximénès Malinjoudé, the hero of the first story, is presented as a figure of hellish beauty; the second tale centers on M. Godeau, a hero more mysterious and unsettling, and finally, The Funérailles d’Adonis, perhaps the most perfect of the three, all dealing with love and the limits of desire.
