Ancient Egyptian funeral rites were elaborate and centered on ensuring a successful transition to the afterlife. This involved mummification, elaborate rituals, and the provision of grave goods to aid the deceased in their journey and existence in the realm of Osiris.

Mummification: The process of preserving the body through mummification was crucial, as Egyptians believed it allowed the deceased to retain their identity and senses in the afterlife. This involved removing internal organs (except the heart), drying the body with natron, and wrapping it in linen.

Funerary Rituals: A key ritual was the "Opening of the Mouth" ceremony, performed by priests to restore the deceased's senses and ability to eat, drink, and speak in the afterlife. Other rituals included prayers, spells, and offerings of food, clothing, and other items believed to be needed in the next world.

Grave Goods: Tombs were furnished with objects intended for the deceased's use in the afterlife, such as furniture, clothing, jewelry, tools, and even model boats for transportation. "Book of the Dead" scrolls, containing spells and guidance for the journey, were also placed in the tomb.

Procession and Burial: The mummy, along with the grave goods and mourners, would be taken in a procession to the tomb, where priests would perform final rituals before the burial. The tomb would then be sealed, and the deceased's soul was believed to begin its journey to the afterlife.
